Where’s Father Bob?
Fr. Bob is on a much
deserved vacation from June 30-July 12. If you have an emergency during this
time, please contact the vestry senior warden, Larry Nassivera
at 413-1768. Please welcome at our services today the Rev. Philip H. Whitehead,
who was the rector of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church for 25
years. Since his ordination in 1961, he also served as a high school teacher, a
leader of spiritual and theological retreats, a prison chaplain, a Reserve Navy
chaplain, a lecturer and an assistant headmaster in an Episcopal school. He has
held a board position at St. Mary's College, Raleigh, N.C.
He was in an exchange program with a vicar in Morecombe, England,
for three months while at St. Catherine's School, Richmond,
Va., and involved in three summer work trips
in Appalachia. He has been an adjunct
professor at the Seminary in Haiti
and at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.
Going Green
The next Honors Group
meeting on Thursday, July 16, will feature Monica Miller, employed with the
Clemson Extension Service, who will speak on “Going Green” – things we can do
in our home and in our lives to be more environmentally friendly. Lunch will be
manicotti, salad and garlic bread, catered by Italian Pie. The event will begin
at noon in the parish hall. All are welcome. No one is too young or too old.
Tom Alewine, 790-0666.
A Little Summer Music
Repairs are underway to
our 100-year-old organ, which will take several weeks. Music accompaniment at
our 10:30 services this summer will be performed by Ron Burns on guitar today
and next Sunday and by a contemporary music group on Sunday, July 20. Other
instrumentalists will perform later in the summer.
Vestry Hiatus
St. David’s vestry,
which meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month through the year, does
not meet in July. But they are still working on your behalf and may be
contacted if you have concerns or suggestions. Don’t forget that minutes of the
vestry meetings and periodic financial reports can be found in the narthex
(sanctuary lobby) or requested from the church office.

A Taste of Columbia
Mark your calendar for 5
p.m.-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, for “A Taste of Columbia” in the parish hall at
St. David’s. Local restaurants will donate food, and proceeds will go to the
Farm of the Child, an orphanage in Trujillo,
Honduras.
Hosting will be St. David’s member Jennie Motto, who plans to spend the next
two-and-a-half years serving as a volunteer at the Farm. A Taste of Columbia is
part of her effort to raise $13,000 in two months to cover the cost of her
commitment. The Farm runs a school and an on-site medical clinic that serves
the orphanage and the Farm’s neighbors. Contact Jennie at 574-514-8853 or jennie.motto@gmail.com
to make reservations or to make a donation if you are unable to attend.
